Consoles;

In 1967 the first console to be created was launched by a German television engineer Ralph Baer. Ralph and his co-workers designed the first video game console hat works on a standard television. This console was known as the “Brown Box”. The console develops a total of 12 games; the first game simply starts off as two squares chasing each other on the screen.

In 1975, Atari created the first big hit arcade game became well known to the public as “Pong”. Pong is a simple but effective arcade game that took over many household video games. Pong produces an on screen score and sound effects that work with the game itself. In 1977 the makers soon realised that a games system’s popularity doesn’t last for long. So they began working on a cartridge-based system. This project was commonly known as “Stella”. This new gaming device can play multiple games such as the well-known Space Invaders, Breakout and Missile Command and Combat. This new gaming device became a hit with many different gaming companies.

In 1985, Nintendo Entertainment releases the Nintendo Entertainment System in the U.S. The retailers were sceptical to start off because they were marketing a completely new console. The Nintendo was a popular console with popular household names like Super Mario Bros and The Legend of Zelda. The strict licensing policy encourages high-quality third-party game development. This specific console soon breaks sales records and breaks sales records and becomes the best -selling console in video game history.

Four years later in 1989, Nintendo releases a second “smash hit” with the Game boy. The Game Boy features a black and white LCD screen, an 8-bit CPU just like its parent system. Due to the release of Tetris for the Game Boy, sales increased dramatically. Over the years the Game Boy went through a series of make overs, constant improvements were being made due to the demand of new gaming devices on the market. In 1996 the Game Boy Pocket was introduced to the gaming industry, and then in 1998 the Game Boy Colour reached stores across the world becoming another great success from Nintendo.

In 1990 a more up to date gaming console reached stores across the world. This console was known as the “Neo-Geo”. This console was said to be years ahead the current competitors. With 2-D graphics, the Neo Geo’s main attraction is its arcade-level quality for use in a home system. The price for this product was the main concern for its lack in sales. The console itself at launch cost around $650, plus games for around $200 keeps it from achieving its mass popularity.

In 1995, Sony released the most popular games console of the 32-bit era of video games. This console is known as the “Play Station”. The Play Station became such a well-known games console due to its three dimensional game play for the first time over the two dimensional games that previously dominated the 16-bit and earlier systems. The price of Play Station games dropped dramatically from the previous cartridge-based games, this is due to the CD-ROM technology created. The Play Station supports games such as “Resident Evil, Turismo and Tekken” it also supports Electronic Arts sports games, this helps continue their dominance of the sports game market.

The Nintendo 64 was released in 1996; the Nintendo 64 marked the last mass-market system to use gaming cartridges. Although the Nintendo 64 cartridges are much more expensive to produce, they load much faster than any CD-ROM games, it also lacks the Play Stations load screens. Using gaming cartridges eliminates any need for memory cards because the gaming data can be stored straight onto the cartridge itself. Nintendo 64 doesn’t have as many games like the Play Station does, but supporting games like “Super Mario 64 and The Legend of Zelda” makes the Nintendo 64 a big hit in the gaming industry.

In 2000, the PlayStation 2 was released by Sony. This is the first 128-bit system to be released. This system features backwards-compatibility. This gives it the ability to play older 32-bit PlayStation games on the PS2; it can also function as a DVD player. PlayStation 2 becomes the most popular console of the 128-bit era. The PS2 also marks the rise in console games being played over high speed internet connections.

2001, Microsoft created the very first independent foray to enter the console market with the release of the Xbox. Xbox was a great success due to its great performance when compared to any other 128-bit consoles of that era. Xbox’s greatest success seems to be “Halo” and “Combat Evolved”.

In 2004, Nintendo releases its third handheld gaming device known as the Nintendo DS. Nintendo’s aim was to attempt to integrate more computing functions into their handheld gaming consoles. The DS features dual screens and touch-screen technology similar to a tablet. The Nintendo DS also features backwards compatibility for older Game Boy games.

Names

In 2005, PlayStation releases their first portable handheld device known as the PlayStation Portable. The aim of this device is to challenge Game Boy’s dominance of the handheld console market. The PSP features wireless capability, high quality graphics and non-gaming functions like photo storage and digital audio/video capabilities that mimic those of PC-based handheld devices.

For the future of gaming there are many more updated gaming consoles that will be released into the gaming market. Sony and Nintendo are both intending on updating their home console systems later on in the nearby future. They aim to feature an IBM CPU and ATI graphics processing unit, Nintendo have also promised to input devices beyond the standards controller. Sony have also recently unveiled the new cell chip, which companies say can run 10 times faster than current computer chips and will power the next-generation of gaming consoles.

Mobile phones

1971 – AT&T was the first company to propose a modern-day mobile-phone system to the FCC. It involves dividing cities into “cells”. This is the first company to successfully do so.

1973 – Dr. Martin Cooper invents the first personal handset while working for Motorola. He takes his new invention, the Motorola Dyna-tac to New York City and shows it to the public. He is credited with being the first person to make a cell on a portable mobile phone.

1974 – The FCC actually starts to encourage cell phone companies to push forward the “cellular idea”. But unfortunately a new suit arises with Western Electric, who is the closest company to succeeding at the time, and it rules that they are not allowed to manufacture terminal and network phone systems under the same roof. This is an effort to prevent a monopoly. But it also prevents progress.

1975 – AT&T adapts its own cellular play for the city of Chicago, but the FCC is still uneasy about putting the plan into action. They have concerns about its success.

1977 – Finally cell phone testing is permitted by the FCC in Chicago. The Bell Telephone Company gets the license; they are in a partnership with AT&T which is a general effort to battle the stubborn FCC.

1981 – The FCC makes firm rules about the growing cell phone industry in dealing with manufactures. It finally rules that Western Electric can manufacture products for both cellular and terminal use.

1988 – one of the most important years in cell phone evolution. The Cellular Technology Industry Association is created and helps to make the industry into an empire. One of its biggest contributions is when it helped create TDMA phone technology, the most evolved cell phone yet. It becomes available to the public in 1991.

2001 – BellSouth announces that it is leaving the pay phone business because there is too much competition from cell phones.

The mobile game genre essentially began in the early 1990s when calculator producers, such as Texas Instruments, began to embed the now ubiquitous Snake game in their devices. The pixilated reptile that grew in size while gliding through a tiny maze so captivated users that Nokia decided in 1997 to become the first mobile phone provider to include a game in one of its models. In the years since, an estimated 350 million mobile phones have offered Snake as a standard feature.

The introduction of Apple’s iPhone in 2007 changed the playing field in a significant, exciting way. The iPhone created a “wide-open” market for third-party titles, where the barrier to entry for developers is low and games cost relatively little money for consumers. The App Store revolutionized the sector by establishing an easily-accessed direct connection between developers and consumers that bypasses publishers and phone operators.

Similarly, thousands of developers create a variety of apps for Android, a mobile operating system launched by the Open Handset Alliance. Google’s Android Market enables users to access the more than 500,000 apps available for the system. In addition, Amazon developed and launched its own Appstore in 2011 for the Android operating system, which currently offers 75,000 apps. The Android Market and Amazon Appstore network of developers includes well-known entertainment software companies such as Electronic Arts, Namco Bandai America and Konami Digital Entertainment.

Arcade Machines

Pong – Atari

1 Jan 1972

Contrary to popular belief, Pong was NOT the first video game ever created. It is simply the first commercial video game to be incredibly successful.

Western Gun – Taito

22 Apr 1975

Western Gun, known n the United States as Gun Fight, was the first video game to show a firearm being used.

Space Invaders – Taito

22 Jun 1978

Space Invaders is considered te first runaway success in the arcade industry. Upon the game’s release in Japan, it became so successful that the country ran into a shortage of 100 Yen coins. Space Invaders is one of the few remaining Golden Age arcade games to still be around today.

Galaxian – Namco’Midway

22 Dec 1979

Galaxian was created by Japanese developer Namco in 1979, but it was released in the US by Bally-Midway. Galaxian can be considered an update of Space Invaders. Galaxian was one of the first arcade games that featured full color, as well as one of the first to feature boss battles. It would gain a sequel in Namco’s Galaga, which allowed the players’ ship to be captured the enemy, as well as the ability to re-gain that captured ship by destroying enemies.

Pac Man – Namco/Midway

22 May 1980

Donkey Kong – Nintendo

22 Apr 1981

Donkey Kong was created by Shigeru Miyamoto, of Nintendo of Japan. This game marks the first appearance of Nintendo’s long-time mascot, Mario. Donkey Kong is considered the best early example of the Platform genre of gaming, as well as one of the first games that has a true storyline.

Dragon’s Lair

19 Jun 1983

Dragon’s Lair is not really a video game in the traditional sense. It’s more of an interactive movie. The movie was played via Laserdisc, and at certain points, a plaer would have to move a joystick or press a button at the right time for the action to keep going. Dragons Lair was given a sequel later on, as well as a spin-off called Space Ace, which featured the same sort of gameplay. Dragon’s Lair is curretnly offered as a DVD, where the game can be played with a DVD remote.

Double Dragon – Technos Japan

22 Apr 1987

Double Dragon was one of the best examples of the Beat ‘Em Up genre, where the player would face hoardes of enemies armed with nothing but their fists. Games like Renegade and Kung Fu Master existed before Double Dragon, but this game has become the basis for many other beat ’em up games, like the Simpsons arcade game, Final Fight, and Streets of Rage.

Street Fighter II – Capcom

22 Mar 1991

The original Street Fighter was one of Capcom’s early mistakes. It suffered from an awkward control scheme that didn’t work as intended, and the game was incredibly difficult. SFII took the issues that the first game had and got rid of them.

Mortal Kombat – Midway

22 Aug 1993

Mortal Kombat is mostly known for being incredibly violent. There have been violent games on the market before, like Exidy’s Chiller, but MK’s violence was much more realistic. The series is also well-known for its’ technique of palette swapping, where additional characters would be made by altering other ones. For instance, MK fighters Scorpion and Sub-Zero are identical in appearance, but they differ in move sets and, most obviously, colour.

Killer Instinct – Rare/Nintendo

22 Oct 1994

Killer Instinct was made by then-Nintendo-owned Rare. It uses computer-generared graphics for most of the characters and backgrounds, and it had so much data that each arcade cabnet had to be outfitted with a Seagate hard drive to store everything. This makes finding working machines difficult today.

Dance Dance Revolution – Konami

22 Apr 1998

DDR is one of the arcade franchises that is still going strong in arcades today, no doubt due to the machine’s visually striking and fun nature. To play DDR, one must step on coloured arrows in time with the directions on the screen. On higher difficulties, this gives the appearance of a player ‘dancing’. This is one of the founding games in the rhythm game genre.

Sega releases the Dreamcast

9 Sep 1999

To many people, this date is considered the end of the arcade. The Sega Dreamcast was built using pieces from Sega’s Naomi arcade board, which means that a lot of Sega’a games could be ported from the arcades to the Dreamcast relatively easy. Arcade games like Power Stone, Marvel vs. Capcom 2, and Ikaruga are functionally identical on the Dreamcast as they are in the arcades.

Gaming Platforms & Technologies;

Introduction;

In this topic I will be discussing 6 different types of hardware technologies that are used in different gaming platforms. I will be describing the types of features and purposes of the technology and also talking about what types of platforms the hardware can be used for.

Processor;

A processor controls what usage the computer is using. The processor also sends signals to control other parts of the computer. A central processing unit, also known as a CPU, is an electronic device that works on a list of things to do, almost like instructions. The processor reads this list one by one and processes each one correctly in order, enabling the computer to work and use memory correctly. If the computer has too many programs trying to load at once then it may cause the processor to run slower and process the instructions a lot slower than usual. In a gaming console, if there are too many programs trying to work all at once then it can cause the frame rate to go a lot slower than normal.

Many newer processors have multiple cores; this means that they have many processors built into the same chip. This is so they can work quicker, using more memory without slowing the computer down. Cores work together rather than one individual core doing all the work at a slower rate. In this day and age some processors can have up to eight-cores allowing the computer to work and load information at a faster pace.

The main difference between many processors is the structure; an older processor has a structure that can process instructions less efficiently compared to a newer processor which has been structured to work at a faster efficiency due to the constant demand in the growing market. The newer processors has been built to hold more instructions and work at a faster rate, therefore more and more computer companies are installing these processors rather than the older less efficient processor which holds less instructions and has less memory.

Processors in gaming consoles;

The fifth generation of gaming consoles began in 1993 and ended in 2002, during this period Nintendo released the Nintendo 64, Nintendo continued to inform other gaming console companies that if contained the 64-bit processing power. Nintendo also tried to outperform the Atari Jaguar by referencing its 64-bit power. The number of “bits” in console power is referred to the CPU. In the gaming industry, having a larger processor is a way of showing marketers how much power they have.

Power Supply;

Power supply is a unit which converts mains AC to low voltage regulated DC power; this is for the internal components of a computer. Some power supplies have a manual selector for input voltage, while others automatically adapt to the supply voltage.Switch-mode supplies replaced linear supplies due to cost, weight, and size improvement. The diverse collections of output voltages also have widely varying current draw requirements. Power supply for gaming consoles has changed dramatically over the years recent years. There has been a constant aim to improve the types of power supplies available and to be the best in the forever growing gaming industry. The most noticeable change in power supply for game consoles has been with the game controller. When controllers were first brought out alongside the gaming consoles they had to either be plugged in with a wire to have a power supply or attached to the game console itself, over time controllers for gaming consoles have been improved, now you can have a wireless controller with its own power supply.

Graphic Processor;

The graphics processing unit, which is also known as a GPU, is a specialised electronic circuit that is specially designed to rapidly manipulate and alter memory to increase the creation of images in a frame buffer that is intended for output to a display. The GPU is embedded in systems, mobile phones, personal computers, workstations and gaming consoles. The modern day GPU is more efficient when it comes to manipulating computer graphics, having a highly parallel structure also makes them more effective compared to the general computer central processing unit. When a GPU is processing large blocks of data, it is done in parallel. A GPU can be put on the motherboard of computers, gaming systems and mobile phones, or it can be put onto a separate video card.

Today’s market leaders for GPU’s are AMD, Intel and nVidia. There are also some smaller manufacturers whose market share is much smaller, for example; Matrox and S3 Graphics. Some manufacturers are mainly concentrating on research only instead of producing real products.

Since the early 1980’s GPU’s have been constantly improving, Intel made the iSBX 275 video graphic controller multimodule boards, for industrial systems based on the multibus standard. Over time more companies have been releasing better, more efficient GPU’s into the market. Creating more competition and challenges for other companies to try and beat, creating better graphic processors.

NURBS; A ‘NURB’ is a Non-uniform rational basis spline, which is a mathematical model most commonly used in computer graphics for generating and representing curves and surfaces. A NURB offers a large amount of flexibility and precision for handling both analytic and modelled shapes.

A graphic processor is vital to gaming consoles due to the constant demand to be the best in the gaming industry. Graphic processors enable the quality of the graphics to look more realistic throughout a game. If the g

raphics are poor then this means the graphic processor isn’t to a high standard. These days in modern gaming consoles, graphic processors are constantly improving alongside the quality of the graphics in a game. The graphic processor needs to be able to keep up with the changing gaming market in order for the games console to be successful.

Game Storage;

Storage limitations along with graphics have been a big improvement to the gaming market. Many gaming consoles have stood still for years because the technology to help improve just wasn’t there. For example, the Gameboy took over the market for 10 years because the technology wasn’t available. Now since the improvements made on game storage this has helped the game console market move up and improve products.

Game storage is a Non-volatile type of memory storage; this means it remembers information even when the console is switched off. Other types of storage for gaming consoles were the cartridges, these slowly became an issue with the later games, for example the Nintendo 64 had 8mb of storage and the cartridge has up to 16mb for the later games, to store a whole game in this cartridge on this amount of memory would mean compromising would need to be made, not as much with the earlier consoles. Graphics would not be as realistic; games could not have hundreds of different levels with different graphics so there had to be repeats.

Game consoles are priced based on the storage it can hold. Based around how much it can hold. More storage is needed these days, this is down to digital downloads and how much more storage is needed with newer games.

Display;

Display is important in gaming consoles, games require a screen of some sort, and the screen is the main source of visual output. The screen responds to the actions and changes that take place in the screen, this is stimulating movement. Gaming consoles require a television as their output device, the bigger the output device then the better quality the display will be. Video games generally have access to less computing power, less flexible computing power and lower resolution displays. Consoles were advanced graphically mainly in animation. A lower resolution output would make the display look better on a television because the pixels are naturally blurred. Having a built in display allows you to carry the technology around with you and still being able to view things in a high quality. Built in display is used in technology such as the iMac, PSP, Nintendo DS and many other portable devices such as laptops.

Hand held technology has had a slower improvement over the years; the depth of the technology used is also only a recent thing.

There are many types of displays available these days, such as T.V’s, Computer screens, LCD, plasma, 3D, monitor and CRT. With each different type of display, they all offer a range of different resolutions and high definition

Computer Memory;

RAM; Random Access Memory.

RAM is a type of memory that is most commonly used in computers that is used to store any running programs and data. Data that is stored in the RAM can be read and written quickly in any order, this allows the computer to run quickly. RAM is usually more accessible than any other type of information storage, data can be lost majority of the time that the computer is turned off. The random access memory is in the form of a computer chip. RAM can come in a range of different sized memory cards; these are 32MB, 64MB, 256MB, 512MB, and 1024MB. The higher the megabytes then the bigger the capacity is of the memory card.

Before 2002, most computers used SDR RAM; this is single data rate random access memory, over time there has been more up to date types of RAM available, such as DDR RAM, this stands for double data rate random access memory, this is a bigger RAM being able to hold more data and split the information that it has to hold evenly. By doing this it being able to work at a faster rate and store more information without slowing down.

RAM is important in gaming consoles because information is constantly needing to be stored whilst the console in switched on. There are more specific types of RAM for gaming consoles such as GDDR; this is mainly used on motherboards to help process the graphics to a better quality throughout the games that are being played on the console. Just like RAM, GDDR has been improved over time to keep up with the constant demand in gaming consoles. GDDR helps distinguish the graphics in a game.

Dependencies

In this section of my blog I am going to be discussing and giving examples on how different types of software for PC’s and gaming platforms are dependent on certain types of hardware. I will also be discussing and using examples of the impact on game creations and game compliance, using appropriate use of subject terminology.

A dependency in my opinion is a piece of software that is dependent on hardware for it to work to is full extent. For example, a game maker will have to take into consideration the qualities needed in a gaming platform to create a new game. They will have to make sure the coding is right for not only one console, but for it to work on many types of gaming platforms.

For example, if two gaming companies decide to produce a game like FIFA but for their own console, these gaming companies could be Xbox and PS4. The two companies wouldn’t go off and start creating the game themselves. One team made up of game makers from both companies will sit down and discus different qualities of their console that would need to be taken into deep consideration. These qualities would consist of the graphics, resolution, sound and also the coding needed for the game to run effectively and to a high standard. The team would find the right dependencies for both the Xbox and PS4, making sure the correct software and hardware is being used, they would also make sure the coding fits both gaming platforms and that the games work effectively.

Certain games can be played on more than one type of console, for example FIFA or GTA can be played on consoles such as Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3, PS4 and the PSP. This is because they all have similar qualities and can support the coding from the game itself. The graphics will be to a high standard and the resolution will not be poor.

Retro Gaming Blogs

Games such as FIFA and GTA cannot be played on mobile phones, this is because the coding needed for the game to run won’t be supported, this could cause the game to become slow or “laggy”, this would also affect the performance of the phone itself. The quality of the graphics would be very poor as well because the display is too small to fit the whole game onto it. This would make playing the game a lot more difficult. So usually mobile phones don’t have the right dependencies to support any big games that can normally be played on a game console.

Operating Systems.

All consoles and handheld consoles have a different operating system, these could be a significant difference between operating systems, or only a slight difference, either way even the slightest of differences can affect the compatible coding of a game. There are many different operating systems that are used these days; these consist of systems from Windows, Mac, IOS, and Android. Many operating systems have their own versions of operating systems, for example Windows and IOS have many different versions of operating systems that are capable of supporting more recent games.

Certain apps are only programmed to work with certain operating systems. For example apps made for an android will only work in an android phone; this is because the phone runs the correct operating system for all android apps. If someone was to run a different app on an android then they would have to port it across so the operating system was capable of running any app off that phone.

Different games consoles have different transition times, for example the transition time from a PC to an Xbox is less than any other system because they both have a similar operating system, similar modules and routines they also define similar hardware. The coding on an Xbox is reduced because it only had one graphics card to dice for.

Some gaming consoles have backwards compatibility, this is where a newer game is compatible for older gaming consoles, for example certain PS4 games are compatible for PS3 and PS2 consoles. Also Nintendo use a similar language for its systems which allow them to have backward compatibility between the generations of the console, the Nintendo allows Gameboy games to play on an Advance.

Once PlayStation started releasing newer consoles, like the PS1,PS2 and PS3, they decided to release the older games that were compatible for the newer devices. These would be ported digitally rather than on a disk. The games would be ported digitally rather than on a disk because the older games are dependent on older hardware and software than won’t be available in the new console. It also costs more to produce older games on a disk with the new compatible hardware and software.

Application Languages

In this section I am going to be discussing whilst showing examples, how programming languages and their choices can have an impact on game and App creation using appropriate use of subject terminology.

All games are written in some sort of code, this is so the computer technology understands the instructions given too it. Over the years there have been many codes that computer programming course find difficult to keep up with, the computer programming system tries to keep up to date with what’s new, what’s trendy, what is good and what is necessary to learn for their programming devices.

The Gaming Android Blog Bully

Pascal, Fortan, Basic and Cobol are all different types of applied languages that were used in the earlier stages of software technologies, these types of languages have all gone now, but the basis of these languages are still being used in this day and age. The skills learned from the, the techniques, the methodology used is still the same now, even with newer more up to date languages.

Recently C++ and C#, also known as C sharp, are the most frequent main contenders in the higher level of programming languages. Programs such as CryEngine, Unreal and Rockstar’s priority engine are all using C++ as the backbone for their programming systems. Many programmers all around the world are using C as the main language in their programs; this is because it allows the programmer to have maximum control and efficiency throughout the device. C is used most frequently because it is an easy language to learn but is also more cryptic with its style compared to other languages, this is overcome quite quickly.

C is known as a compiled language. This is where once you have written C in the program, the instructions must run through a C compiler to turn the program into an executable; this is so the computer can run programs to a higher standard.

C# is a language that has been designed to be fully compatible with Microsoft’s .NET initiative while taking advantage of what has been learned from C, C++ and Java. C# has been specially designed to be a platform independent language in the tradition on Java.

Programming languages have their advantages, for example; all types of websites, applications and programs contain some sort of programming language that can progress over time. Programming codes are the instructions that tell the computer what to do. Programming languages are the development of new software; it can improve the future of new operating systems. Platforms can be very independent.

There are many disadvantages to programming languages as well. Creating new coding is very difficult and involves a lot of technical thinking. Programming languages can become hard to learn. Catching bugs within the programming language can be difficult to solve. Without programming languages, then computers wouldn’t be as simple to run and programs won’t work properly. Although programming languages are quite independent, it is mostly used for platform specific applications.

A game engine is a software framework designed for the creation and development of video games. Game engines can be written in any programming language like C++, C or Java, although each language is structurally different and may provide different levels of access to specific functions.

Game Scripting

In this section I am going to be talking about game scripting. Scripting languages are computer programming languages used primarily to reduce the edit, compile, link, run process. Scripting languages were first used as batch command tools. They were mainly used to run a specific set of easily editable tasks or commands on a computer. Eventually scripting languages started showing up in computer games. Some scripting languages have another important role and that is to extend some other programming languages such as C or C++. Languages can come as simple stand-alone languages, general purpose languages like Perl, Smalltalk and PHP but other like Python, Lua, and AngelScript, can be embedded within the native code of the application and serve to extend its set of available functions and types.

Online Gaming Blogs

In GTA the coding for objects or pedestrians would have already been created and stored in a separate program, when the coding is needed, for example if the player turns a corner and the game wants a random car to pop up, then it will call for the coding of that specific car and place it in the game, this is why sometimes during a game, the player will see random objects popping up throughout the game.

Scripting languages gives you the ability to code your games major functionality without having to compile the game engine at all. Some of the game components are Artificial Intelligence, User Interface, game events, save and load game functionality.

Scripting allows people of any game company of various disciplines to work on their piece of coding for a game and not have to use the C++ programmers to change on thing in the game engine. C++ functions can be written in the engine so that the script can get access to it.

The scripting engine needs to be bound to the C++ world so that the two-way communication can take place.

The embedded script allows the script programmer to call C++ functions, access local, class and global C++ variables and even C++ classes objects as well. In the same manner, the C++ code will have access to local and global variables and functions of the script language.

LO4- Be able to connect and configure platforms and devices to enable gameplay.

In this LO I will be connecting devices to a game console or a computer device. As evidence of what I have done I will be using photographic evidence throughout the process of connecting the device. I will be connecting the following things and providing photographic evidence.

Console to display;

When connecting the console to display I was connecting the console to a display board using the HDMI cable. This allowed me to use the console on a bigger screen. This was done by connecting the HDMI cable to the console. Connecting this will allow me to play a game looking at either a computer screen, television screen or any other types of display.

Local area network (LAN);

The LAN cable connects the console to the router. This cable connects into the back of the console and allows a network to connect. Connecting to a local area network will also allow you to connect to a wide area network. Connecting to the wide area network is the same process as the connecting to the local area network.

Wireless;

Connecting to the internet wirelessly is using the WiFi, to connect to this you will only need a code then you are free to use the internet wirelessly. Connecting a console wirelessly will also allow me to connect to other types of consoles wirelessly.

Wireless devices to platforms, e.g. joystick, controller, wheel;

When connecting the controller wirelessly, you have to wait for the blue light to come on, on the top of the controller. Once this is on, the controller is on. You can connect more than one controller this way.

Installed console games;

Installing a console game is a simple process. You have to insert the game into the console. Once the console has taken the disk into the device, you have to wait for it to load. Once the game has loaded it is ready to be played. This is enabling game play on the device.

Configured console games;

This is configuring the settings on the console game. This image shows that the audio settings on the game are being changed.

Installing a graphics card can be quite simple and straight forward. To install the card, the back of the computer needs to be removed and then the card should be slotted into a space, holding the corners and then pushing the card down into the space.

Once the graphics card is installed it will be firmly in place and not be moving around.

Sound card;

The sound card provides sound for the computer.

When installing the sound card, again you hold the corners carefully with both thumbs and slot it into the space provided next to the graphics card.

Once the sound card is installed correctly, it will sit firmly next to the graphics card, supporting itself.
